Try Dives

What is a try dive?

A Try Dive does what it says on the tin. An opportunity for people interested in Scuba to try it out! If you’ve never Scuba Dived before, this is a perfect place to start to make sure you like it before joining the club. We pretty much guarantee you will though!

It’s run by our committee and instructor team who will be with you throughout the night to help you get the most out of the event!

Interested?

Like what you read? Our try dives this year are on the evening of Wednesday the 4th, but spaces are limited, book now to avoid being disappointed!

I loved it! How do I get more?

So we’ve peaked your interest then? Great! You’ve now picked up a addiction… hobby that will be with you for life.

If you want to do more of this, you’ll need to get qualified with an agency. We offer BSAC qualification courses just for that! So take a look at our ‘Join us’ page to learn more…

Try Dive FAQ

All you’ll need is to turn up in your swimming gear with a T-Shirt over the top (to stop the jacket straps rubbing) as well as bring a towel and a change of clothes for after the Try Dive.

We’ll provide the Scuba Gear, Fins and Mask!

Absolutely not, the point of the try dive is to show people who’ve never done it before how amazing breathing underwater is!

Although we won’t have a swim test on the night, we do require you to have a basic level of swimming confidence.

If you go ahead and join the club, you’ll need to show us you can swim 200m unassisted (no time limit).

Your slot will be 15 minutes long.

We expect it to take about 5 minutes to get kit on so you’ll have 10 minutes in the water. It all depends how confident you are and the instructor will adapt the pace to your preference.

We’d love to offer longer time slots however we only have two hours in the pool and want to show Scuba to as many people as possible.

Before you arrive we’ll send all attendees and email with details of the event. Attached to that email will be a medical form with a list of medical conditions that could be dangerous when paired with Scuba Diving.

If you have one of these medical conditions we’re afriad you won’t be able to attend our Try Dive event.

Do not despair however, this doesn’t mean you can’t Scuba Dive! You’ll need to go for a dive medical with a specialist doctor who will make an assessment on whether you’re safe to dive or not. If you get the all clear, you’re welcome to join our club. We get a few people each year who need to go through this process so it isn’t unusual and we’ll be here to guide you through the process.

Absolutely you can!

BSAC has a fantastic program called ‘Diving for all’ (DFA) which encourages people with disabilities into the sport. Give it a quick google if you’re interested!

On the night we might have to make some adaptations to make sure you’re comfortable so please get in touch with us and we’ll discuss this further with you!

Due to the very limited number of spaces we’re able to offer this year, we kindly ask those who have already been lucky enough to experience Scuba, to leave spaces to those who haven’t!

There is no obligation to join the club after the try dive. We have limited spaces this year, less than half of the usual 100+ people we usually have attend. We ask that if you have dived before, you leave the spaces for those who have never experienced being in full SCUBA underwater.
