Training

What we offer

We’re a BSAC affiliated club offering BSAC scuba training courses to Loughborough University Students. No matter what level you’re at, we’ve got a course for you.

Once you book onto one of our courses you’ll be sent the relevant training pack which contains all the information you’ll need. You’ll attend presentations to learn the theory behind scuba diving. You’ll be paired with one of our friendly instructors who will teach you the practical elements of the course in the pool and in open water.

If you complete the course successfully you’ll be a fully qualified scuba diver!

Which course you go on depends on your current qualification level so if you’re not sure feel free to get in touch with us and we’ll guide you through the process.

Where we do it

Loughborough University Swimming Pool

Every Wednesday night, the club trains in the Loughborough University Olympic swimming pool. A British Swimming National Centre, 50m long and 2m deep, this is the perfect place to learn new Scuba Diving skills or polish up some old ones.

If you’re doing a course, you’ll be with an instructor who will be with you for the whole session to teach you the skills you need to know whilst keeping you safe.

The pool is only a short walk from our kit store so there’s no need to be lugging heavy equipment long distances!

Stoney Cove

Once you’ve completed your pool training, it’s time to take the skills you learnt into open water. We do most of our open water training at Stoney Cove Dive Centre, a large flooded quarry. The quarry is filled with interesting things to see including submarines, helicopters, large ships and tanks.

You’ll need to perform the skills you’ve been taught in the pool but in this more challenging environment. Your instructor will give you a reminder before the session and will help correct any mistakes you may make.

Open Water

Sometimes, you’ll be able to complete some of your open water lessons in the ocean on one of the trips we run throughout the year.

Doing this is largely similar to completing your lessons in Stoney Cove but gives a bit of a change of scenery and makes mask clears slightly less pleasant!
